After a good month of outfit planning and generally looking forward to the event, the Vogue Show finally came. I made sure I was up bright and early at my hair stylist to avoid the photos of last year. I can do clothes, hair, not my talent.
Outfit had finally been chosen so I had to day to await my girls for our pre-show prep. My final outfit consisted of the Leifsdotter “Misis Blouse”, a pair of Rachel Roy “Highwaisted Lady Shorts”, along with my Elizabeth & James Calf Hair (faux) boots. For accessories, I kept it simple. Stud earrings, a larger crystal and leather necklace, and a black leather and crystal cuff.
And off we went. We arrived at the Hyatt and after a quick stroll through the pre-party it was time to be seated. Front row wonder seats, here we come. The show was fun and there were some great items on the runway. Look for the entire lineup of fashions shown at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pink-Pagoda-Style/182256714290 A few things stood out to me at this show and I hope you don’t mind me sharing. Off the top, the Menswear outfits were boring. I don’t know if it’s because we are in the land of tech, David Lawrence can no longer be used for the Bellevue Collection show, or they think people don’t care. Guess what? We do.
Secondly, there were a lot of great accessories and shoes both on the runway and off. Wish the show could focus on those as well. The show program thanks Report Shoes but they can’t all be from there. Where else did you pull from? What about all the fabulous necklaces. Inquiring minds want to know.
Speaking of shoes and menswear, there were some fabulous shoes spotted on the show viewers. One such pair across the way from us, happened to be a pretty pair of Louboutin’s on a well dressed woman. Sadly, her husband next to her was well enough dressed but had on inexpensive, scuffed shoes. Gentlemen, pay attention to your footwear. It does get noticed. And perhaps this is why the male models are donning such doze worthy duds.
Another item I noticed that would be good to point out is proportion. A few of outfits shown were off as I mentioned in the FB run through. In general, I think people should be aware when accessorizing and finding balance. I recall a conversation with a client about wearing continuous scarves and unless you have a giraffe length neck, it can give the appearance of your head floating above your body on a pillow of fabric.
Instead, use a lighter weight scarf or do what this model is showing. Add color and texture with your scarf but keep your neck free so it is apparent you have one.
Finally, my only other comment would have been, with an entire “Collection” of stores to pull clothes from, I would really like to see more of a mix up of items. Aritzia seems to be the only store that is mixing brands together and in real life it happens so it would be good to see. Instead of an entire Hugo Boss outfit (either from their store or Nordies), why aren’t we seeing a pair Hugo Boss pants with a Vince blouse with an Ann Taylor Sweater with some boots from Macy’s with diamonds from Tiffany’s and a necklace from Forever 21. That would be some styling that I would want to see.
